» CBPBA Safe Boating
Consider this simple thought. You are driving your automobile at 25 mph
on a parking lot when someone cuts in front of your vehicle causing a
collision. Such a collision could possibly deploy your airbag. Hopefully, you'll be well
enough to open the door to your car, exit and walk away from the
accident. Now consider a 25 mph collision while driving your
boat. Imagine hitting a submerged object in the water (i.e. a log), or running
aground or another boat hitting you. You and your passengers will be
violently thrust into the dashboard, gunwhale and/or onto the floor if you're lucky. More than likely, you'll be thrown from your boat and into the water. When involved in a boating accident, you can't just get up
and walk away. Statistics have consistently shown the overwhelming majority of those killed as a result of a boating accident were not wearing a personal flotation device. Take a few minutes now to review boat safety education and tips from the professionals. Safety on the water applies to everyone equally whether you're new to boating or not. No matter your level of experience, there's no such thing as being too safe. With that in mind, there is an enormous amount of information, education and training available to boaters from the US Coast Guard, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the US Power Squadrons and US Coast Guard Auxillary. Each of these organizations, as well as others, provide resources we can all leverage to ensure a safe day on the water. Here are some valuable links to help you get started. CBPBA Member Discounts and Perks
For a nominal $75 annual membership fee, our members already know there are a lot of perks and discounts associated with the CBPBA. From funding activities such as the Christmas Party to the Crab Feast, or providing members with a registration code to get a discount on their annual BoatUS renewal, there is a significant value in being a paid member.
We're working hard to bring additional value to our members for 2013, and we believe some of the offers will be compelling. To that end, you should also know our members also receive a membership card each year. The card provides access to some perks and discounts with our various business partners, sponsors and members. NOTICE: Proof of insurance required for CBPBA boating events.
Annually, for all Chesapeake Bay Power Boat Association boating events (i.e., official poker runs), Captains are required to have proof of insurance on file with the club.
We need a copy of the Declaration(s) of Coverage Page, showing what is covered and the coverage period. Our insurer has made this a requirement, it's not an option. So it's very important we meet the obligation, otherwise we'll have to turn people away the morning of an event.
No one is interested in the rates your paying or the T's and C's of the policy. Each policy has a 1 or 2 page section which is a Declaration of Coverage, showing what assets are covered by the policy and the... [Read More]

Vessel Safety Check Program
The Chesapeake Bay Power Boat Association fully supports the national Vessel Safety Check Program.
Annually, many of us go through the VSC program and receive the sticker. Scheduling a VSC is very easy, they'll even come to your dock. This is not a law enforcement review, if you don't pass, you WILL NOT receive any sort of ticket or citation, The purpose of the courtesy Vessel Safety Check is to find and identify any deficiencies before you're pulled over.
As you commission your boat, here's the list of minimum requirements. http://www.safetyseal.net/
